Beach Cliff Erosion and Protection

UCSB Beach Cliff, May 1979. Boulders were set at the base of the cliff to retard wave erosion beneath campus buildings. Local organizations have recently fought successfully to prevent UCSB from lining more of the cliff with boulders, and as a result, the sea cliff retreat has intensified following El Nîno storms in 1983 and 1997. ©AGS1979.
