Some Goleta Beach Sand Comes From Goleta
Slough
 |
Streams carry sand into Goleta Slough from the mountains. The sand
settles in the slough where the Flood Control people periodically
dredge it, here with a drag-line scoop, and dump it into piles where
it dries out. Then a front end loader shovels it into dump
trucks to haul it to the beach. |

1 February 2001. Dredge in Goleta Slough sucks up sediment
from the bottom of the slough. The sediment, mainly sand, silt, and
some pebbles, are pumped through a big pipe and dumped
on Goleta Beach. |
