Some Goleta Beach Sand Comes From Goleta Slough

Streams carry sand into Goleta Slough from the mountains. The sand settles in the slough where the Flood Control people periodically dredge it, here with a drag-line scoop, and dump it into piles where it dries out. Then a front end loader shovels it into dump trucks to haul it to the beach.
1 February 2001. Dredge in Goleta Slough sucks up sediment from the bottom of the slough. The sediment, mainly sand, silt, and some pebbles, are pumped through a big pipe and dumped on Goleta Beach.
