The second half of the UCSB Geology summer field camp was held at Norden, which lies at the crest of the Sierra Nevada near Donner Pass. Seventeen students, supported by an instructor and three very able teaching assistants, mapped parts of the Norden quadrangle according to projects of their choice. Rocks and problems included granite, volcanoclastic deposits, basalt and andesite lava flows, a thick sequence of rhyolitic ash flow tuff, debris avalanche, mafic enclaves in granite, and the Donner Pass fault zone. A map of the entire quadrangle has been compiled from their mapping and past UCSB mapping and is in preparation for eventual presentation on this web
site.
